Battle of the Bands

After the Senamrobik, the school Band (which won 2nd prize in Hong Kong) gives an exquisite presentation to the Aussie visitors.

The band

The audience captivated by the performance (or just plain relaxing in the sun)

Next the Chinese Philharmonics renders the Wong Fei Hong's song accompanied in action by the Wushu members.

Waiting for Master Wong Fei Hong

Come Shake Your Backside

How to shake.. easy only la.. just follow me...

Sports Day 2012

A hazy day but the brave Jit Sin runners still run for their Houses. Me, I am the Assistant Starter, for the first time.. Interesting for without my signal, nothing can be started..
Note the blurriness of the pictures...  due to the haze
In the end, I don't even know which house won.. Will ask the PKKK later on.

Science Trip to Alor Star

First day of the school holidays, and I followed a group of Biology/Science teachers and students to Alor Star for a study cum holiday tour.

Paddy Museum and Science Centre

We visited the Paddy Museum (well all you see is all about paddy). The thing that impress me and most of the visitors (and worth of the entrance fee of RM3) is the 36-degree mural painting the wall of a dome. If you have the time, you can sit and watch the picture while the whole platform rotates slowly.
The bad thing is you are not allow to (actually you have to pay) for bringing in the camera. I mean why charged for taking pictures while in most places don't.

The Science Centre (Northern Region) is next to the museum, so we walked there. I do not find Science centres to be impressive because most of the exhibits are toy-like and catered mostly to the kids. This Science centre is small comparatively to that in Singapore, so to me it is not worthwhile.

Alor Setar Tower and the Ecobrown Rice Mill
We detoured to a place where there are stores selling crystals. I assume the crystals came from the surrounding hill. Anyway, I bought a small piece of white calcite (I think) for RM3.

Then it is lunch time in Alor Setar Pacific Shopping Complex. After filling our stomach with food, we proceed to the Alor Star Tower. A five minutes lift ride to the top enable one to have the aerial view of Alor Star.

Our last stop is the Serba Wangi Rice Processing Plant. There we are introduced into eating the  Ecobrown Rice which most of the teachers bought in kilos.

I would say it is a 12-hours trip well spent for the start of the holiday.

T-Cher's Day

The Teachers' Day cake.. for 150 teachers.. "cleaned-out" in 150 seconds...
Two surprises happened today

First, somebody remembered the teachers in JitSin and sent a cake. What a pleasant thought.

I am not going to sing to you, maybe Pn Yeoh is... Okay la.. I'll sing..... see what happened when I had sung..
Second, there is an assembly at the volleyball court regarding teachers' Day. This is really a shock to me, as Jitsin do not celebrate the real Teachers' Day (see what I mean when you teach in a Machine school). So all form 3 and 6 students will have to assemble there at 10:50 (the rest of the students are taking their exams - another point to show that exam is more important than remembering teachers' Day in Jitsin)

And this could be another surprise, because when everybody is at the court, the program is just to watch the small television showing the speech by the Minister of Education in TV1 (live) from Kuala Kangsar. Scheduled at first at 11 am but only come on air at 11:35 am (talking of Malaysian punctuality).  What is the educational aim of this thing? Well, probably to make the students remembered this year Teachers' Day

The Lower Sixes are back to school.

Welcome back for the paper chase. A new chapter (STPM) begins.

First three days will be orientation to the Lower Sixes, to choose Science or Arts, Bio or Physics, Accounts or PP, and then choose which KoKo clubs or uniform bodies...

Then beginning of next week, it is going to be full throttle towards 3 STPM exams.
The vision stuck on the wall.... but the impression .......if there is hope...

World Book Day

The book worms feasting on the layers of cellulose polluted with lead-based inks
The timing is correct - the annual books exhibition was held in the school hall for the past two days. Not many book stalls for this year, just 3 only.

I did not really find it to be of any interest as the books exhibited for sales are all in language which I could not understand. What a pity as I had the budget to acquire some books.

InTraining

Recsam - nothing interesting about the course hence the scenery of the campus is the main attraction
Spent my last weekend at RECSAM-SEAMEO in Penang Island for the course on New STPM (syllabus and coursework).

Actually, it is more of a 3-days holiday with nothing gained except that for those who are going to come back for Lower Six next week, be warned that there are many course works (kerja kursus) that you will have to do.

As for Biology, I am not too happy with the new practicals for paper 4 as some of the good practical in the Terminal STPM had been taken away and the new ones suck. Anyway, it is still a new thing and the guinea pigs will be in next week.

Met two "old" boy and girl of Jit Sin, one Ms Teng Bee Gaik, a sweet teacher from Heng Ee, who came and greet me. I cannot remembered her but her name struck me as my ex-student in 1996.

Run

Oh my! The end is still so far away........
The first day of the annual Sukan Tara - a chance for the Jitsinians to enjoy life in the morning sun. The pounding and trumping of the Class One Boys and Girls shaken the earth as they tried to outpaced each other to the finishing line in the 100 m dash (or clash). At the end of the day, the Jitsinians gained much from the exposures to the sun and the Green House emerged the winner

Fantasy of Science

Science (fiction) week.. Basil leaves scent from my R&C group 2012:::::: and one of the better project (electrifying the plant)
Oh! It is not a battlefield in the school hall, but the chaotic presence in the hall is due to the annual Science Week with this year's theme The Fantasy of Science (probably Jitsins study science as sci-fi and no wonder they scored As and A+s every year in SPM)

And true to the theme the ExaMachs do transform Science into Fantasy. I mean, how can a project presenter explains that aluminium can stores heat better, or that 4 spoonful of sugar and 4 spoonful of salt are of same concentration and.. and that hot air flows downward.. oh my god! What a fantasy world our ExaMachs live in!

Out of 41 projects (sounds grand - but as Hokkien people said  Boh Liau) only 2 or 3 projects are worthy to be called science projects (and least to say of Kebangsaan level). The rest are typical exam-oriented laboratory works or magic shows. Chemistry projects that are done with no chemical principles, Mathematics projects with no background in mathematics principles or rules, Science experiments with no controls - had the Jitsin students not taught of these in class or lab?

Yucks! What an insult that my intelligence had to endure as a judge for today and (OMG) tomorrow again.

CrossCountry Chicken Run

At check point 8
Thank god no rain today, as it was raining cats and dogs yesterday morning.

A good weather for the Jitsin Chicks and Ducks to run the annual somewhat-shortened-again cross country (or taman) run.

Most of the two legged super Chicks and Ducklings managed to walk all the way while the teachers constantly yelled encouraging words to them.

After the run, there will be more strenuous exercises .. talking about torturing people.. I will be too weak to blog after this

IT Weak

Wondered what Jenga and cards got to do with IT... No wonder nobodyvisited this booth
IT week used to be a time when many IT gadgets and computers managed by various companies were displayed and sold to students and teachers.

This year's IT week is a disappointment. Just two stalls selling headphones mostly for apple or Iphone and pen drives.

What had happened? Is it because of economical reasons (which I think not, as students in Jitsin are rich)? Is it because people just do not want to come to Jit Sin to sell their products? Or is it the IT club had gone under?

What ever it is, it is a Weak IT Week

Looks like I was wrong

A sad incident - your heart is fragile - don't get too stressed out
Yesterday, mycikgu blogged that there was no phone calls from JPN - looks like I was wrong.

Today, at the assembly it was announced that the Pengarah of JPN will be coming to Jit Sin to announce the SPM state level results.

This inferred that for the year 2011 exams, ExMachs of JitSin had scored a double in being the top school in Penang.

Congratulations to all ExMachs and to justarandomboy - my apology for making you nervous or maybe you will become more anxious tomorrow -

To all for what ever it is, be it moment of anxiousness or excitement, please do take care of your heart. I think nothing is worth dying much so of your exam result

Counting Days to SPM 2011 Result

Let me not suffer in Form 6 lo...
Wednesday is the day -  although not as critical as the STPM result annoucement, nevertheless is still the nerve-wrecking, tense and anxiety intensive waiting period of 2 more days.

Mycikgu wishes you (the SPM waiting ExMachs) - all the very best, let the tears that flow be of joy and happiness.

No phone calls to the school from JPN - so JitSin once again is not the top school at SPM level.

STPM 2011 Result

The orange Ex-aMachs... the only A Bio student ...... Ai Jing smiling (1 out of 24 of the Pg Form 6 bio students who got A)
Congrats to those who achieved excellent STPM results. Sorry for those who felt disappointed of their results (especially bio) but then philosophically, if you had already tried very hard for the exam, then the result should not disappoint you. Try to maximize your result for the entry to the U-course of your choice. All the very best to you.

The Last Day Before STPM Result

Will the butterfly that will emerge fly far?
What will it be? Well, all the very best to those going to get their passport to their metamorphosis from a career of a school student to somebody else.

Best to celebrate the last day as a student.

What ever will tomorrow be you know that you had done and try enough for your meta-morph.

Roof on Volleyball Court

The construction of the roof on the volleyball court (I heard this roof is donated by the oldies). At least now, we can volley on the courts without fear of getting wet. But then, the heydays of volleyball in JitSin are gone. Nowadays, angry birders are better catapulting than our volleyball players.
The roof in construction

The ceremony was held this morning at 8:30 am sharp. The electronic club members were already busy preparing for the  ceremony as early as 7:00 am.
