Biology STPM 2011 Prediction

One of the most sorted posts in the internet this time of the year is prediction and I had seen hits on this prediction thing in this blog. Tempted am I to get my crystal ball out from the box this year and see whether it is clear enough  to see anything.
Fortunately it decided to show its prediction this year... much to my relief.
Good luck to all of you for this coming Dec 1

Now that the Paper 2 is over, you have to concentrate on paper 1. Every chapters will have at least one or two questions, so no skipping but you have to pay attention on what you read. Not too much of memorising but must know the basic well.

Those who have knowledge, don't predict. Those who predict, don't have knowledge.
Lao Tzu
Prediction #1 : Describe the structures of DNA and explain 3 of its characteristics. If the question is like this, then remember to write about polynucleotides (sugar-phosphate-bases) how these 3 formed the polynucleotide including the bond (phosphodiester bond) - the 3 characteristics of DNA = double helix (2 polynucleotides joined by hydrogen bond into 1 DNA molecule), antiparallel and complementary (bases of A-T, C-G)
Prediction #2: Describe how DNA replicate semiconservatively. Be careful. If the question just ask how DNA replicate, then you have to state that it replicate semi-conservatively and Meselson-Stahl experiment proved that. (Remember the radioactive E.coli and the bands N14/N15). However if the question is like the above, then you will have to explain the formation of leading strand and lagging strand (Okazaki fragments) with the enzymes involved.

  3. Not my favorite but this topic is like a bomb waiting to explode in any time, so just be aware of it (if you can retained the difference between the p and s nervous sys)

  6. if difference is asked you can get the answer from the reference books or the internet. I suggest that if you r going to attempt this, then memorised at least 5 differences and 3 similarities for this question
